Will Create Fisheries Ministry If Congress Voted To Power: Rahul Gandhi

Assured a bunch of traditional fishermen in Goa that when his party was voted to power in the Centre this season, a different Union ministry could be made for fisheries.

Held series of meetings on Saturday together with all the folks dependent on mining, traditional fishermen, environmentalists opposing recent amendment to the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification and taxpayers opposing managing of coal in Vasco city.

"Gandhi assured us a Separate ministry for fisheries and fisher welfare could be made to be able to do justice to the industry formerly voted to power," explained Olencio Simoes, Vice Chairperson of National Fisherworkers' Forum.

He explained Mr Gandhi agreed to incorporate the need of another ministry at the party's manifesto for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

"Currently, Fisheries is but one of the 3 branches of this department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries that operates under the ministry of Agriculture," Mr Simoes, that headed the band of fishermen to get a meeting with Mr Gandhi, stated.

The fishing community additionally required scrapping of CRZ telling 2019, describing it as detrimental to the neighborhood.

Mr Gandhi also met the agents mining dependents and also as people influenced because of pollution made by the handling of coal in Mormugao Port Trust from Vasco to listen to their grievances.
